The Plan
Based on guidance from local residents, the city put forward a plan to renovate and expand the Maple Grove Community Center to support our growing community.
A plan to invest in the Maple Grove Community Center
After consulting with residents and community leaders, the city developed a long-term plan to invest $116 million to expand the Maple Grove Community Center and the services it supports.
A voter-approved half-cent local option sales tax will provide $90 million for the $116 million project. Fifty-five percent of the half-cent sales tax will come from nonresidents, according to a study by the University of Minnesota.
Commitment to sustainability
The plan will reduce the building’s energy usage by up to 80% when compared to similar facilities. Updates such as geothermal cooling and heating systems and newly insulated roofs could be utilized. Other eco-friendly aspects of the plan include:
Donating, reusing or recycling 75% of non-hazardous waste from construction and demolition.
Using environmentally preferred building materials for 55% of the renovations/additions (including salvaged, reused, recycled and responsibly sourced materials).
Replacing plumbing fixtures to reduce water usage by 50%.
